Tolstoy: Anna Karenina in translation
In this podcast, Alison Flood speaks to 98-year-old Tolstoy translator Kyril Zinovieff about the newly published version of Anna Karenina he began work on 60 years ago.
Zinovieff is now blind, but managed to complete the translation with the help of Jenny Hughes, who didn’t know Russian but learned the Cyrillic alphabet and read Tolstoy to him without understanding a word.
